About the Dance, the Film

A Bit of Background

I let my hand do the dancing here, when I put the pen down, it didn't stop moving until this title came to be: "La Danza del Niño Venus". It translates to The Dance of Venus as A Boy. The last part of the title was inspired by Bjork's "Venus as a Boy", where she sings about  “a boy who saw everything from a beauty point of view”. For me, Venus comes into play because of the celestial power behind acceptance, and its symbolic representation of love.

What's funny is that the title was actually one of the last elements that came to be. When I first had the idea to record myself dancing, it was when I was having a therapeutic-sound-body-healing moment in my room. I was playing around with a skirt I have, I love how it flows.

I set up the camera and only planned to walk into frame, walk out, and then start filming, but as I played around in the frame, it felt right. So I left the camera recording and began to warm up.

8 minutes of passion felt like the biggest moment in my life. I was dripping, with love, catching my breath as it tried to run.
